Are You A Grad Student?

Did you know there is a list serv for LGBTQ graduate students? Communicate with your fellow grad students.... Interested in hosting a rendez-vous? Posting details about a conference? A call out for a journal reference? Join the LGBTQ grad list serv to be in touch with other graduate students and keep informed of events, programs and information related to the graduate experience.

Graduate Students can participate in the Positive Space Campaign - attend meetings, raise concerns and raise the visibility of sexual and gender diversity with respect to the graduate student experience at U of T. For more information on the Positive Space Campaign, click here.

For resources you can contact the Office directly via email or by phone at 416.946.5624.

As part of a larger outreach and welcome initiative to LGBTQ identified students, staff, faculty and allies, the Office hosts a gathering specifically focused on connecting LGBTTIQQ2S grad students. This year we co-hosted with the GSU queer caucus, and CUPE 3902 Queer caucus in the fall. This event was held at the end of September and was well attended by graduate students from disciplines across the University.

Grad Students Get Together at U of T....

For many years LGBTQ graduate students have gathered in various ways and configurations to meet, socialize and explore various academic experiences. Typically, it is the students themselves who rally at the GSU pub or other locations on campus. Beginning in 1998 there was an informal group call "OUT of the Carol" - organized by a couple of students, which eventually became dormant. In 2002 (or so) graduate students organized a grad chapter of LGBTOUT.

For several years the grad chapter met monthly at the GSU Pub led by graduate students volunteering their time to host the evening. The leadership began to dwindle in 2006-2007 and in 2008 there were no volunteers stepping up to organize these gatherings. In response to this gap, the Sexual & Gender Diversity office hosts a reception for graduate students and faculty. Interested in making time for this to happen? Please contact us and we will be happy to support your initiatives on campus.
